ElsaMarie D'Silva launched Safecity in 2012 alongwith some friends as a visceral response. A brutal gang rape left a woman dead, sending shockwaves across the nation and garnering global attention. It stirred her, becoming her catalyst to act. Safecity is a platform that allows women to safely and confidentially report incidents of abuse anonymously.
Recognising that lasting impact requires a multifaceted approach, ElsaMarie expanded her efforts beyond the app. She realized that it was vital to work directly in the communities where these incidents occur, often hidden from the public eye. She brought together a strong team of experts on crime, abuse, tech, ethics, and more. The result was Red Dot Foundation, a non profit Section 8 company to work on gender equity, safety and justice.
Red Dot Foundation programmes and projects involve educating families, local law enforcement, and community leaders about the pervasive nature and devastating effects of violence against women and girls. Using evidence based data from Safecity, communities and institutions are encouraged to find local solutions. The goal is not only to address individual cases by providing knowledge and legal information but also to bring about systemic change and institutional accountability through collective action and effective policy implementation. These goals guide our vision and mission.
